Let’s say you enjoy putting your hat and your boots on every morning, and go down to the road passing near your house. You stand there every day, in every kind of weather. You watch and greet the cars, the motorcycles and the trucks that pass you by. They get used to you. They honk and wave. And you wave back.
Let’s say the exchanges between you and the occupants of those vehicles bring smiles to a hundred faces every day.
There was a time, not long ago, where we’d let your “behaviour” slip by without putting too much energy into it. You’re there. You wave. No big deal.
Today, when I tell people about this person – yes, it’s a real person I’m talking about here – the first question they ask is: “But how does he make a living?”. The second question they ask is: “What’s his diagnosis?”. Not one person yet has asked about the hundred smiles.
